Are you nervous and anxious over an issue with your son or daughter? Do your children face uncertain obstacles and you want nothing more than to overcome those obstacles for them? Are you struggling with how to teach them respect and obedience? Do you worry that no matter how hard you try to raise them to be God honoring and loving your going to mess them up?
There are days and moments when we as moms worry and fret over our children. We struggle with doubt, insecurity and worry over the day-to-day issues from birth to adulthood.
The worry begins the moment we find out we are pregnant with questions over what we can and cannot eat, concerns over development and growth, and hopes that delivery will go well. As soon as our children enter this world we begin to worry over how well they are eating, when they will crawl, walk & potty train. We quickly move onto concern over their friends, how well they are doing in school and the dreaded days of learning to drive. Before we know it they are leaving home ready to face the world on their own.
This morning I experienced an acute measure of worry and anxiety as my son prepared for oral surgery. Leading up to this morning I was calm and trusting that everything would go smoothly but, my son woke very nervous and anxious and after assuring him everything would be fine I began to struggle with worry and what-ifs.
As the what-ifs played out in my mind God’s Holy Spirit gently reminded my heart where these fears and worry were coming from. They were coming from the enemy –the enemy who wants to place anxiety, fear and worry in my mind, the enemy who wants to take my focus off the One who loves my children more than he loves the little birds that he provided for in Matthew 7.
The Lord knows the number of individual strands of hair on the heads of our children. He cares for them and wants us to trust Him with them.
So my sweet friends, whatever you face with you kids whether its potty training, grades, driving or dating hand it over to God. He will take care of them, as you trust Him and He will give you the peace you need.
This morning as I prayed God brought these 5 verses to mind. I pray they will help you as you turn your worry over to God.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the Peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6,7
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”
Matthew 7:26,27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.”
John 14:1
