This weeks Digging Deeper verse is the P31 OBS Made to Crave study focus verse Lamentations 3:22-24. You will notice I am studying God’s Word a little differently this week. I decided to use the SOAP method I learned from GoodMorningGirls.org. This post {How To} S.O.A.P. is a great explanation on how to S.O.A.P. I will also give you some ideas on how to do each section. So get your bible, a pen, and your journal and lets dig into Lamentations 3:22-24.
S – SCRIPTURE – Write out God’s Word.
O – OBSERVATION – What do you see in these verses. Who is the audience? What words, phrases stand out to you? Are there any words that are repeated?
· We are not consumed
· Compassions never fail
· New every morning
· The Lord is my portion
· I will wait for him
A – APPLICATION – This is when we see how God is personally speaking to us. Is God specifically saying something to me in this passage? How can I apply this passage directly to my life? Do I need to make any changes in my life? Is there anything I need to do after reading this passage?
Because of God’s great love for me I will not be consumed – by my fears, my doubts, my insecurities, my struggles to eat healthy, my natural tendency to fall into old habits.
For His compassion – His love, His mercy, His Grace – never fails – it never runs out and won’t give up on me.
They are new every morning – like the sun breaking across the morning sky, like the rain that washes away the dust and dirt from the ground God’s compassion, love and forgiveness is new every morning.
Great is your faithfulness. God is faithful to do what He says He will do. He will never go back on His Word or break His promise. He never fails.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion – The Lord is all I need! Do I truly believe that? Do I trust Him to give me all that I need?
Therefore I will wait for Him.” Do I really wait on Him to provide what I need or do I try to rush full steam ahead trying to get what I need or do what I think is right?
P- PRAYER – Pray God’s Word. Take it deep into your heart and ask Him to help you live out His Truth. Use this time to confess sin He has revealed to you.
Dear Lord, Thank you that because of your great love I am not consumed by my fears, doubts, insecurities and natural tendencies to fall into bad habits. Thank you that your love never fails. Your grace, your love, your mercy and forgiveness are new every morning and ready for me when I ask for forgiveness. Thank you for being faithful to your Word. Lord you are my portion. Lord when I struggle with wanting more from the calling you have placed on my heart, when I struggle with wanting to eat the way I used to eat, when I struggle with falling back into old habits; Lord help me to remember you are my portion. You give me what is good, pleasing and perfect for your will for my life and I thank you. Help me to wait patiently on you.
In His Calm,

Mary, thank you for sharing the S.O.A.P method – I can’t wait to get home and do this with some specific verses that I hold near and dear. Your prayer was so moving and I truly enjoyed reading every word. Thank you for putting your thoughts into words and placing them in black and white for us to enjoy.
Yvonne~ Thanks for your words of encouragement. I love how when we take time to break down the scriptures God speaks to us in a fresh new way. I look forward to hearing how God speaks to you in those special verses.
Great verse mapping Mary. Loved how you broke it down and explained it. Thanks for sharing. Debbie W. (OBS Team Leader)
Thanks for stopping by Debbie. God’s Word truly comes alive each time I break the verses down.
Thanks for stopping by Debbie! God’s Word truly comes alive whenever I spend time in His Word and I love it!
Mary, thank you for sharing. As I was reading your post, the “consumed” struck me in a different way. We don’t have to be consumed with over-thinking or trying to plan too much. His mercies are new that we do not need to be overwhelmed with thoughts or worries or fears. Check out my #beneficial post at: http://www.groundswellministries.org/2014/02/19/on-that-which-is-beneficial/
Jenn, thanks for stopping by. Isn’t it neat how God can speak directly to each one of us? I know there are times when I need to be convicted of over-thinking and trying to plan to much. Looking forward to stopping by and reading your post.
I had not seen the SOAP method used to break down a verse before. Thank you for sharing that–I think a lot of my group members would like to try that out! I enjoyed reading what stood out for you, as you dug deeper into the verse. Because of God, we have hope and encouragement–we are not consumed by fear and old, bad habits. Great post!
Thank you so much Sandi for stopping by. I have really enjoyed using the SOAP method as another way to dig deeper into God’s Word. Please feel free to share my post with your group. I love how my small group encourages me and would love to be able to encourage another group.
Your addition to God’s word really struck my heart today. I need to fully trust Him and stop trying to make things happen on my own! Either I trust God for who He says He is or I need to have a “come to Jesus meeting” . Thank you for your dedication to his word…
Thank you Kathy! I will be praying for you as you work to trust God for who He says He is. Sometimes those “come to Jesus meetings” are just what we need even though they can be very painful. Blessings to you!
