Friend,
I don’t know where this Mother’s Day finds you. You may be enjoying your first Mother’s Day embracing your new bundle of joy, running around doing all. the. things. with your teenage children, celebrating graduation or weddings, or being surrounded by a handful of grandchildren. Whatever life stage you find yourself in as a mom or grandma, I pray you enjoy every moment.
Some of you may be experiencing your first Mother’s Day without your Mom. If you are, I want you to know that I know exactly where you are. Your heart desperately wants to tell your Mom; thank you for the gift of her unconditional love and sacrifice for so many years. But you can’t. At least not face to face. But, you can take some time to sit quietly and write out the words your heart wants to tell her.
Today I want to share a letter I wrote to my Mom as she spends her first Mother’s Day in Heaven. Oh, the joy I have knowing I will one day see her again in Heaven!
Thank you, Mom
48 years ago, you gave up sleeping through the night.
48 years ago, you gave up thinking about yourself first.
48 years ago, you gave up sleeping late in the morning.
48 years ago, you gave up worrying only about yourself.
48 years ago, you gained a little bundle of joy.
48 years ago, you gained a girl who would cry desperately seeking comfort.
48 years ago, you gained a daughter who would break your heart with crazy hormone fits.
48 years ago, you gained the unconditional love of a little girl looking up to her Mommy.
And 48 years later, this Mom of 2 teenagers wants to tell my Mom of 48 years, who is spending her first Mother’s Day in Heaven, THANK YOU!
Thank you for the sleepless nights when I was a baby.
Thank you for the sleepless night when I was 18 years old and home from college for the first time.
Thank you for giving up what would have been easier for you and thinking about me.
Thank you for being the calming source when my emotions got the best of me.
Thank you for being you and leaving a legacy that points everyone who knew to Jesus.
Love you to Heaven and back,
Mary
For those of you spending your first, tenth, or twentieth Mother’s Day without your Mom, I wanted to pray this prayer over you.
A prayer for you
