Allume Moments
Earlier this week I shared with you the way God dealt with my heart at Allume. Today I am going to share with you other moments from allume so here goes …
· Moments that took me out of my comfort zone:
o On Thursday night the Five Minute Friday ladies came together for an open mic night to share their Five Minute Friday posts. You will see a part of that time in the bottom picture above. Yours truly stepped out of her comfort zone and shared her post with all of the ladies.
o During lunch one day we had a chance to hear from a panel of ladies who have listened to God’s call on their lives and have started ministries to reach those who are hurting. The ladies from Mercy House Kenya, Sole Hope, The Exodus Road & Freeset truly amaze me.
o On Friday afternoon we had the opportunity to put action to our words of wanting to help women around the world. I took part in an impact opportunity with The Exodus Road and Freeset where I heard stories and saw footage from an undercover rescue of girls who were caught in the horrific life of Human Trafficking. Next week I will be sharing more of The Exodus Road and Freeset story.
· Moments that were humbling and even a bit embarrassing 🙂…
o Meeting Ann Voskamp, author of One Thousand Gifts A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are, was one of the incredible highlights of the weekend. She is an amazing, genuine soul. I was blown away by her genuine compassion for people.
o In my last post I closed giving you a teaser of a possible bathroom stalking… well the top right picture is of me and The Nester aka Myquillyn Smith who is the sister of Emily Freeman from Chatting at the Sky and author of A Million Little Ways – Uncover the Art You Were Made to Live. Emily (pictured in the middle) & I met years ago at another conference. In our conversation at lunch we discovered that it was a possibility that her sister and my husband went to high school together. So, when I found out The Nester was going to be at allume I planned on finding her to see if they did go to school together. Enter my most embarrassing moment of the weekend…In between sessions I made a quick trip to the restroom. I truly paid no attention to the person walking in before me. As she turned around ready to go into the stall, I realized it was Myquillyn and just like I would do if I saw a friend I had known for years I said, “Oh hey I need to talk to you about something.” Now she didn’t know me from Eve but she very graciously said “Um ok, can you give me a minute.” And then upon exiting she said, “Can we talk after this next session, my mind is going all over the place and I don’t want to mess up and say something I shouldn’t.” Can I tell you I was mortified! I realized it looked like I had followed her in there just to chat, UGH! Oh well leave it to me to make a fool of myself. Anyway after the session we had a chance to talk and it does turn out Myquillyn and my husband did graduate together.
o The bottom photo is of me and Erin Ulrich who, along with her husband Philip, is the author of The Growly Book series. I loved having a chance to talk with Erin. If you haven’t read The Growly Books -Begin I would highly suggest it. The second book Widewater will be releasing in just a few short weeks.
I know this post is getting a little long so I will end it here but next week I will share a few more moments from Allume.
