When you’re running around checking off those never ending to-do lists…
When the kids are pulling you from one direction to the other…
When deadlines are looming and your boss comes in and needs something done “right now”…
What do you do? How do you slow down and find the focus you need to do the next “thing”?
Years ago when my husband and I were both working as critical care nurses he shared the perfect way to take control of an emergency situation.
When you’re in the middle of an emergency and you find yourself losing focus,
· STOP – right where you are and take your own pulse
· BREATH – take control of your breathing with slow deep breaths
· THINK – what is the most important thing I need to do next.
This process takes only a few seconds but the effects are huge. During those few seconds you slow yourself down, clear your head & get a better handle on the situation.
You may not be in a critical care situation but there are times when daily life can make you feel as if you are. When you find yourself losing focus and overwhelmed
· STOP – right where you are and take your pulse
· BREATH – take control of your breathing with slow deep breaths
· PRAY – Ask God to clear your mind. Ask Him to show you what is important. Ask Him to give you His focus.
When we take the time to slow down and turn our focus back to God we remind ourselves who is in control and we allow Him to direct our paths.
Dear Lord, when we find ourselves unable to focus on what we should do next help us to stop, take a deep breath & focus on you. Guide our steps and show us the paths you want us to take. In Your Name I Pray, Amen.
In His Calm,
