Hey there…
In case you don’t remember me, I’m Mary & The Calm of His Presence is my little space of the internet where I share the many ways God is making His Calming Presence known in the crazy world in which we live. I know, I haven’t filled this little space in almost a year and I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to desert you but as I shared in this post sometimes we are overtaken by the waves crashing down around us. In 2015 the waves came crashing down and over my head “as life and issues began to overtake me just as the waves in the ocean sometimes do“. “I was caught in the raging ocean of life flailing under the waves breaking over me.” As the waves broke and covered my head I lost focus and felt as if I was drowning in the hurt, pain & fear. I knew in that moment I needed to refocus and grab the hand of God that reached out for me just as he reached out for Peter in Matthew 14:22-34. So, as I reached out to take the hand of God I stepped back out of writing and instead focused on The Cross of Christ through God’s Word.
As I’m able, I will share the journey my family took to come through the storm we faced in 2015 but for now, my friends, I want to share with you these words God used to wrap His Arms around me as He carried me through the storm.
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed;
perplexed, but not in despair;
persecuted, but not abandoned;
struck down, but not destroyed.”
2 Corinthians 4:7-9
“Therefore we do not lose heart.
Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.
For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
I once had a friend and mentor tell me, “in times when life seems darkest stay focused on The Cross of Christ”. It was during the past year when I felt myself drowning because of the raging seas of life that my heart clung tight to those words. Although I couldn’t “see” The Cross of Christ with my own eyes I kept the “eyes” of my heart fixed on the eternal, unseen Cross of Christ. And just like Jesus reached out His Hand to pull Peter out of the waters God used His Word to pull me out of the ocean of life swirling around me.
So my friends, I’m back and would love for you to join me in this journey of finding the calm of God’s Presence in our everyday lives.
