Good Morning Dear One,
The Lord brought you to mind this morning as I sat quietly with him. I know you are under a tremendous amount of stress and feel as if life is pressing in on you from all sides. Walls made of stones labeled with impossibility, uncertainty, fear, doubt, insecurity, failure, unworthiness, confusion, questions, discouragement, loneliness and so much more loom high above you.
But can I speak some truth into your heart this morning? You are not alone and you will make it through this season! How do I know? Because I’ve been there. And in that season I experienced God’s presence stronger than ever. I know God sees you and I know He sees what you are going through.
In 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 the Apostle Paul writes, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” Paul knew what it felt like to feel the walls closing in because he experienced it personally and wrote to the people of Corinth to encourage them to stand firm in their faith.
He went on to tell them, “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18. Yes, when all you see are the walls surrounding you it’s easy to become overwhelmed, but when you fix your eyes on the Lord – the Author and Perfecter of our faith – He gives you the strength and power to overcome the obstacles before you.
The Lord moves us to a spacious place
David writes in Psalm 18:18b-19, “…but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place, he rescued me because he delighted in me.” When the stress and worry of life starts crashing in, God is there. He won’t let the walls crash down. Instead, he takes us to a spacious place where we breath in His goodness and feel the warmth of his presence. He rescues us because he delights in us.
With God we can scale the wall
David faced a wall of threat from multiple enemies including King Saul. Throughout the eighteenth chapter of Psalm we see God as David’s strength, rock, fortress, deliverer, refuge, and stronghold. In verse 29 David declares, “…with my God I can scale a wall.”
Friend, we too can declare, “with my God I can scale this wall”!
God reaches down from on high to take hold of you and me. He enables us by the power of His strength to overcome the obstacles of the stones of the wall surrounding us. He is our stronghold and our endurance as we slowly but surely climb over the wall.
The Lord steadies our feet like that of a deer on the side of a mountain as he enables us to stand securely in His strength. He gives us the power to overcome through His mighty word.
On the other side
And on the other side of the wall we will look back and see stones labeled with words that signify our overcoming in God’s Strength.
- “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'” Matthew 19:26
- “’For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, for I myself will help you,’ declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.” Isaiah 41:13-14
- “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and wary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 4:29-31
- “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
- “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
- “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
- “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
A prayer for you
Dear Lord, I know you see my friend. I pray she will keep her eyes focused on you. Give her strength and courage to face each day. And help her feel your presence as you climb over this wall with her. In Jesus name, Amen.
In His Calm,
